2018 Greater Atlanta Christian (Ga.) cornerback Trey Morrison hadn’t heard from Notre Dame much as of a few weeks ago, but that has quickly changed. The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder has seen more contact, and defensive backs coach Todd Lyght made his way to practice on Tuesday.
“Coach Lyght was there all of practice,” Morrison told Irish Sports Daily. “We didn’t get to talk because of NCAA rules, but he was there.”
The three-star prospect admitted there are nerves when college coaches swing by to see practice, but the program is also no stranger to having big-time coaches on the sidelines.
“It kind of fires you up and makes you nervous,” laughed Morrison. “It’s nerve-racking if you miss up. If you don’t get the offer, then you are thinking about why you didn’t get the offer.”
Lyght had hinted at an offer coming soon for the Georgia native, and it would be an offer Morrison would take into heavy consideration.
“Coach had told me an offer was coming around the corner, and that was last week,” explained Morrison. “Hopefully, I can get it soon. I am excited about it.”
Morrison isn’t just giving the offer lip service, as he is 7-on-7 teammates with Notre Dame commit Derrik Allen and the two have spoken about the Irish.
“I really like the program, and one of my good friends is committed there,” Morrison said. “Notre Dame is a good football program and has excellent academics. It’s a great culture from what I’ve heard.”
Notre Dame is a school Morrison plans on seeing sooner than later. He expects to take a massive road trip this summer, and South Bend is on the list.
“I will get up to Notre Dame this summer,” stated Morrison. “I am going to go to Cincinnati, Louisville, Maryland, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Pitt, Virginia, and West Virginia.”
Morrison holds over 25 offers, and a few new schools have entered the mix.
“Indiana was at practice on Tuesday,” said Morrison. “Arizona, Georgia Tech, Illinois, and Nebraska have been recruiting me. Syracuse just started talking to me too.”
