2027 O’Dea (Wash.) defensive tackle Tevita Nonu will be one of the final prospects to receive a Notre Dame offer on Pot of Gold Day. The Fighting Irish plan to adjust their St. Patrick’s Day strategy moving forward, meaning the days of handing out 100-plus offers in one shot are over.
That said, Notre Dame has the attention of the 6-foot-4, 270-pounder as contact has ramped up over in recent weeks.
“The relationship between me and Notre Dame has been OK,” Nonu told ISD. “They reached out to me a little here and there, but I think they are picking up recently.”
Nonu helped lead O’Dea to back-to-back 3A State Titles this season and it has the attention of Al Washington.
The four-star prospect has appreciated the Irish staff reaching out to him and Nonu is looking forward to building stronger relationships with Notre Dame.
“The conversations have been just uplifting about me and my future,” stated Nonu. “They also checked up on my season and stuff.”
While Nonu is unsure whether he’ll make it to South Bend this spring, Notre Dame continues to push as the Washington native has a strong interior presence with size and quickness.
On the field, Nonu prides himself on his football IQ and use his quickness to his advantage.
“The strengths in my game would be game recognition,” explained Nonu. “I feel I have a good IQ in the box. I have good quickness. I’m improving on my strength this offseason and trying to stay healthy, so I don’t miss games.”
Nonu visited several in-state programs last fall, giving him a clearer picture of what he wants at the next level.
“I think I want a school that can set me up for my future career and also a good program to develop me,” Nonu stated.
There’s no rush in his recruitment. The O’Dea star plans to sort out his spring schedule before narrowing down summer plans.
Nonu holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Idaho, Notre Dame, Oregon State, Portland State, Sacramento State, San Diego State and Washington.
“The next steps for my recruitment are to definitely build my relationships stronger and go on visits,” said Nonu. “I’m excited for my official visits as well.”
