2027 DL Karlos May Talks Notre Dame Relationship, Potential Return
Karlos May is beginning to feel the momentum of the recruiting process as the 2027 Alabama defensive lineman and his fellow 2027 prospects take center stage with the majority of 2026 targets now signed.
“It’s feeling good,” May told Irish Sports Daily. “It’s a good feeling knowing that that time has come and it has come so fast.
“But it’s a great feeling knowing I’m in position to be able to do what I’ve got to do and be able to go wherever I want to go.”
Notre Dame has remained a consistent presence in that process and May has remained in frequent communication with multiple members of the Irish staff.
“Yessir, I’ve been pretty much talking to them a lot,” May said. “At least three to four times a week.”
Those conversations have included head coach Marcus Freeman and defensive line coach Al Washington, along with members of Notre Dame’s recruiting department.
“They’re all pretty good people,” May said. “They come from the heart, not just telling me things about on-the-field, but telling me things off-the-field as well. Just getting me prepared for the things that’s to be expected as I get up there.”
The message from Notre Dame has centered on long-term development and growth beyond football.
“Just basically to come join the program and it’ll take my future to another level,” May recounted. “They’ll be able to develop me so I could be the best player I could be.”
On the field, May sees clear alignment with how Notre Dame deploys its defensive linemen and what he’d like to be a part of.
“I love the way they rotate their guys,” May said. “The guys who are developing, guys who already, they’re pretty much getting in the game, getting playing time. Being able to get on the field and show plays on tape.”
That interest should bring May back to South Bend soon.
“I want to spend more time with the coaches, get a better look of the program, get to spend some time with some players, just basically get around and get the feeling of South Bend,” he said of his return.
Additional visits are still being mapped out, with May identifying several programs he wants to see in person, but none are set yet.
“I know I want to get to Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Oregon, schools like that,” he said.
As for when a decision could come, May indicated his recruitment is likely to stretch into the heart of the visit cycle, saying he’d like to cut down his list before official visits begin.
