Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame aren’t wasting time filling the defensive line coach vacancy left by Al Washington, who will now work the Irish linebackers.
Sources have confirmed Notre Dame is expected to hire Indianapolis Colts defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, who has been with the organization since 2024. ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg has the new first.
Partridge is no stranger to college football, as he was the defensive line coach at Pitt from 2017-2023, serving as Co-DC from 2018-2023.
For his efforts in 2022, Partidge was the Football Scoop National Defensive Line Coach of the Year after helping Calijah Kancey become an unanimous All-American and the ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
Partridge also produced Patrick Jones II and Rashad Weaver in 2020, which was the first time since 1977 that Pitt had two defensive players earn consensus All-American honors.
He also spent time at Wisconsin, where he crossed paths with Notre Dame defensive coordinator Chris Ash. Partridge was on the staff that brought three straight Big Ten titles to Madison and developed future NFL Hall of Famer JJ Watt.
Ash and Partridge were also on the same staff at Drake as graduate assistants.
