Elite 2027 S Gavin Williams Remains In Contact With Notre Dame
Things continue to move forward for Gavin Williams as he works through the next stage of his recruitment.
“Everything’s been going good right now,” Williams told Irish Sports Daily. “It’s been great.”
The 2027 California safety said communication with Notre Dame has remained consistent since his visit to South Bend earlier this fall.
“I’ve been talking to Coach (Mike) Mickens and everybody from there,” Williams said.
The message from the Irish defensive back’s coach has been a clear one.
“I’m a high priority for them,” he said. “They like me a lot and just want to keep building with me. I’m going to come back for the Junior Day in March.”
Knowing where he stands with the Irish has resonated.
“It means a lot,” Williams said. “Especially from a school like Notre Dame. One of the top programs in the nation and just the prestige of it.”
Williams’ relationship with Mickens has played a meaningful role in that connection.
“As a person, he seems like a cool person,” Williams said. “A great dude off the field and just easy to talk to.”
Williams holds offers from Notre Dame and schools like USC, Tennessee, Miami, Washington, Texas A&M, Texas and Oregon among others.
Williams visited South Bend for the USC game back in October, a trip that left a lasting impression.
“Really just the culture there,” he said. “That was my best gameday experience. Seeing everything, how they play for one another and just how different the culture felt.”
When he returns for Junior Day, Williams wants to dig deeper into how the program operates day to day.
“I want to see how they practice and how they are off the field,” he said. “Just see what they can offer.”
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder is also lining up visits elsewhere as he continues to evaluate his options.
“Next month I’m going to visit Miami and Tennessee,” he said.
The next few months will be about gathering information before moving closer to a decision.
“I’m going to take some visits, then probably take official visits,” he said. “Then I’ll commit during that time.”
In the end, Williams said fit will be the driving factor.
“It’s going to be about what’s best for me and my family. Somewhere I can go where they have a plan for me.”
