Notre Dame has signed former Colorado cornerback DJ McKinney out of the Transfer Portal.
McKinney joined the Irish after visiting South Bend on Friday following trips to Ohio State and Texas Tech.
McKinney spent the last two seasons at Colorado, where he emerged as a steady presence in the secondary. He registered 95 tackles and 13 pass breakups over the past two seasons while making 22 starts for the Buffaloes, making him one of the more proven defensive backs available in the portal.
McKinney began his career at Oklahoma State, giving him experience in multiple Power Four defensive systems.
His addition addresses a clear need for Notre Dame as it looks to add proven depth and competition in the defensive backfield during the transfer window.
McKinney’s ability to step in with significant college experience sets him up as a potential immediate contributor as the Irish continue to reshape their roster through the portal.
It also represents the first portal addition for the Irish this cycle, a much-needed one.
