Notre Dame Joins Loaded List of Offers for 2027 DL Mekai Brown

Notre Dame made its way to Connecticut to get a look at 2027 Greenwich Country Day standout Mekai Brown‍ on Thursday. 

The visit paid off.

Defensive assistant Nick Sebastian extended an offer to the 6-foot-7, 230-pound defensive lineman and it was one Brown had been patiently waiting on.

“It definitely means a lot,” Brown told ISD. “A lot of people around my town have connections to Notre Dame. Honestly, it's the one people have been asking and kind of waiting on. It definitely felt really good.” 

Greenwich Country Day is one of the top academic schools in the state, and Brown is looking for a similar environment at the next level.

“I would say so,” stated Brown. “I’m looking for a homely feeling, so definitely.” 

Brown’s recruitment has accelerated quickly. The four-star prospect holds more than 30 offers, and college coaches have flooded his high school over the past two weeks. 

In addition to Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Carolina and Texas A&M have been through this the week alone. 

“It hasn’t been too stressful,” said Brown. “I’m just grateful for the process and I’m keeping my focus.” 

With coaches frequently walking the halls, several schools have begun to separate themselves in Brown’s recruitment. While he hasn’t finalized a spring visit schedule yet, Brown did make fall visits to Ohio State, Tennessee and USC.

“Ohio State, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas A&M, UCLA and Virginia Tech,” Brown said of the schools standing out. “I’m still in basketball season, so I’m going to go take care of that. I’ll definitely come up with a plan.” 

On the field, Brown recorded 68 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 10 sacks in 2025. 

Brown believes his pass rush is a strength and is focused on becoming an even more dominant run defender ahead of his senior year. 

“I feel like the best thing I do is probably getting after the quarterback,” Brown explained. “I want to get better at stopping the run. I think I’m good at it, but I know I can be even better.” 

Looking ahead, Brown isn’t in a rush to make a decision. He plans to take his official visits before narrowing his recruitment.

“I’ll probably take my officials and then decide on a school,” said Brown.
