Wide receiver Bubba Frazier didn’t commit to Notre Dame on a whim.
Before pledging to the Irish last spring, Frazier did a deep dive on offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock, including his recent success with receivers at LSU.
“I did my research on him when they first started recruiting me and I saw that he was at LSU with those guys,” stated Frazier. “I saw the things he was doing with them. I pondered that because the year before (2024), they were running the ball a lot. That fooled me because I knew what he could do (with receivers), but he was just doing what was best for the offense.”
Now on campus, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Savannah (Ga.) native is embracing the transition to college football. The biggest adjustment so far?
“It's been good,” said Frazier. “Just learning from the older guys on the field and staying in the books was cool. Really, the main thing was just the weather. Getting used to the cold.”
Beyond that, the early enrollee has leaned into learning from veteran receivers and staying disciplined academically. Notre Dame’s large January freshman class has also eased the transition.
“It’s easy because we get along with them, so you’re not really uncomfortable,” Frazier stated. “You feel welcome and you have brothers from day one.”
Frazier hasn’t experienced his first collegiate practice yet, but he is already setting good habits, which includes getting extra work.
“The main thing I’ve been working on is staying on the JUGS machine, getting my hands right,” explained Frazier. “In college, it’s different. You won’t have that much of a big window to catch the ball, so I’m continually working on my hands and doing some footwork to help that.”
That work ethic has already gotten the attention of his teammates.
“Bubba Frazier has surprised me a lot here,” stated classmate and fellow receiver Kaydon Finley. “He's really quick. He's always in his playbook. He knows everything. He's really smart. He's quick. He's aggressive. He has great hands.
“His work ethic is amazing. I love seeing it. I think for the next three to four years, five years, I think it's going to be amazing working with him. That's the guy who has impressed me the most.”
Who has impressed Frazier? CJ Carr.
It might sound like a no-brainer, but Frazier is used to good quarterback play as his high school quarterback, Stephen Cannon, signed with Texas Tech.
“Oh, he's good,” smiled Frazier when asked about Carr. “He got the right touch. He’s accurate. I’m really happy to play with him.”
When it comes to earning a role on the field, Frazier is eager to prove he’s willing to do anything to find playing time.
“I’ll do whatever they need me to do, but as I said, the most important thing is keep working on my hands,” said Frazier. “That will help me be the best I can be to help the team.”
