Notre Dame added another in-state target to its 2028 board when tight end Theo Schott‍ received an offer from the Irish.

Schott picked up the scholarship last week after assistant tight ends coach Harris Bivin and offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Mike Denbrock connected with him through his head coach.

“I talked to Coach Biv first and then had a conversation with Coach Denbrock and he offered me,” Schott said. “I was kind of speechless after. It was kind of a full-circle moment.”

The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder has followed Notre Dame throughout his life.

“I’ve grown up watching them,” he said. “They’ve been my main team just being from Indiana. They’ve always been the powerhouse in the state. I have family that went there and I went to a game too, so all of it coming together and getting the offer, it means a lot.”

In addition to Notre Dame, Schott holds offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Oregon, Texas Tech and Wisconsin among others.

The Irish staff pointed to the Zionsville High School standout’s versatility and playmaking ability when explaining why they wanted to offer now.

“They really liked my film,” Schott said. “They said they liked my ability to catch the ball, make plays and my speed. Those were the main reasons they wanted to extend the offer.”

Beyond football, the conversation stood out for its tone.

“They actually had really funny personalities,” he said of Denbrock and Bivin. “It was a fun conversation. We talked about more of our personal lives and stuff like that.”

Schott is already mapping out his next trip to South Bend. He currently plans to attend the practice the day before the Blue-Gold Game but is also hoping to find a way to get there for a Saturday scrimmage earlier in the spring.

“I think they recommend a scrimmage just to see how they coach their players during a game,” he said. “I want to see how they roll and meet some of the tight ends if I can and see what their culture’s like.”

The Indiana tight end also plans to camp in South Bend this summer as the relationship continues to build.

Spring visits are also expected to include stops at Texas Tech, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa and Florida, though dates are still being finalized.

Schott expects to narrow his focus once his sophomore season arrives.

“When we get into football season, I’ll probably pick five to eight schools I really want to focus on and go to game days,” he said. “You have to be honest with coaches too. You don’t want to waste each other’s time.”

Notre Dame figures to remain firmly in the mix beyond those next cuts.

“Yeah, for sure.”
