Elijah Cromwell‍ made his first trip to Notre Dame on Thursday and the 2028 Colorado running back left with a clear impression of what the program offers beyond football.

“The visit was great,” he told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “I loved the coaches and loved how everything went.”

Cromwell spent time getting familiar with campus before diving into the football side.

“On Thursday, I went around campus, looked at the stadium,” he said. “I met with Coach (Marcus) Freeman and got dinner.”

The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder returned on Friday to watch practice, where the energy stood out immediately.

“Practice was great,” he said. “I loved the tempo of practice and watching everyone compete.”

The Irish offered Cromwell last month and the visit allowed him to continue building relationships with the staff while gaining a better understanding of how he could fit within the offense.

In addition to Notre Dame, he holds offers from California, Colorado State, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Miami and Oregon State among others.

Cromwell’s conversations with the staff centered on both development and long-term opportunity.

“Coach Freeman was talking about the academic parts of Notre Dame and what this place holds for you after football and showed me the businesses people own that went to Notre Dame,” he said.

He also enjoyed his conversations with running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider.

“He talked about the ways he can use me in the slot and also about the relationship he has with the players with tough coaching,” Cromwell said.

The Cherry Creek High School standout came away encouraged by how the program operates on and off the field.

“This place is beautiful and it’s not only football and like you have to go to class there is no online that’s also great,” he said. “The visit was amazing. I loved it.”

With no additional visits currently scheduled, returning to South Bend is already a priority for the Englewood, Colo., native.

“The next step is coming back. I really like this place and can’t wait to be back again.”
