Ifeanyi Emedobi’s visit to Notre Dame cemented the Irish firmly among the contenders in his recruitment.
The 2027 Indiana defensive end made his way to South Bend this past weekend, getting an up-close look at the program as the Irish continue to build a relationship.
“It was amazing,” Emedobi told Irish Sports Daily. “Just the atmosphere, something special.”
The Northrop High School standout holds offers from Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Rutgers, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin among others.
He spent time around the program during practice and meetings, coming away impressed with how the operation runs.
“They run a tight ship,” Emedobi said. “Practice ran quick, but it was efficient.”
The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder also connected with head coach Marcus Freeman during the visit, gaining insight into his approach and background.
“He’s a special guy,” Emedobi said. “We talked about why he got into coaching and his ‘why.’”
That message aligned with Emedobi’s own priorities, particularly when it comes to balancing football and academics.
“Notre Dame is Top 10 in football and academics,” Emedobi said. “Even though I take football seriously, I take academics seriously as well.”
That mindset is rooted in his family background.
“Most of my family all have degrees,” Emedobi said. “My dad, my uncle and my grandpa, so it wouldn’t make sense for me not to have one.”
He also spent time with defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, whose coaching style stood out.
“I liked him a lot,” Emedobi said. “I liked how he coaches and how he takes things from the NFL down to the college level so you’re ready for it.”
The visit helped solidify Notre Dame’s position moving forward as he begins to narrow his focus.
“I feel very highly of them,” Emedobi said. “They’re definitely going to be in my Top 5.”
With several spring stops already completed and more ahead, Emedobi plans to continue evaluating his options before locking in official visits and moving toward a decision later in the process.
“I want to take five officials for my five choices.”
A final decision is expected sometime in August or later.
