2027 NJ Edge Esa Wittingburg Planning Notre Dame Official After Offer
With regard to Esa Wittingburg, Notre Dame has entered the chat.
The 2027 New Jersey edge defender announced an offer from the Irish on Tuesday following recent communication with the staff, specifically Notre Dame defensive line coach Charlie Partridge.
“Coach (Partridge) called me,” Wittingburg told Irish Sports Daily. “He said they liked my film and think I’m the type of guy they’re looking for that fits their program.”
The offer stood out to the 6-foot-3, 230-pounder given Notre Dame’s reputation.
“It meant a lot,” Wittingburg said. “Just knowing they have confidence in me and giving me the opportunity to play at a school like Notre Dame.”
The East Orange STEM High School standout has built a strong early offer sheet that also includes schools like Boston College, Duke, Minnesota, Missouri, NC State, Northwestern, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest among others.
Contact with the Irish staff had been limited prior to the offer, with communication picking up over the past week.
Partridge played a key role in helping the Irish make an immediate impression.
“He seems like a great coach,” Wittingburg said. “Especially coming from the NFL, I know he’s got a lot of experience.”
The East Orange native is already looking to take the next step in the process with the Irish.
“I’m definitely going to set up an official visit,” Wittingburg said. “We’re looking at either June 12th or June 19th.
“I’m looking forward to meeting the coaches and seeing the environment,” Wittingburg said. “Seeing how they do things down there.”
Wittingburg already has official visits set to NC State, Wake Forest, Pitt, Northwestern and Virginia, while continuing to evaluate additional options.
He plans to make a decision later this summer, sometime between late June and early August.
He has a good idea of what the most important factors in that decision will be.
“Definitely the connection with the coaches. Finding a program that fits me best, the play style and development and being able to get to the next level.”
