As the Spring Evaluation Period winds down, Notre Dame made a power move on Wednesday afternoon. Notre Dame offered its first 2020 prospect in Providence Day (N.C.) defensive end, Jacolbe Cowan.
The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder was surprised by the offer and knows the Irish don’t just throw out offers to everyone.
“Receiving an offer from Notre Dame is a huge blessing,” stated Cowan. “Especially, Knowing the history behind the football program and the tradition of the school.”
The four-star prospect holds 15 offers from schools like Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, N.C. State, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin, but being the first 2020 recruit offered by Notre Dame meant a lot to Cowan.
“Being the first player in my class to receive this offer speaks volumes,” Cowan explained. “It’s a great feeling, and it means a lot to me.”
Holding so many offers after just his freshman season is something Cowan never saw coming, but he is taking it stride and living in the moment.
“It’s unbelievable, and I’m so grateful,” he stated. “It’s such a blessing to see all of my hard work pay off but never would I have imagined just turning 15-years old and having 15 offers.”
At this stage, Cowan’s future will be at strongside defensive end, and the Charlotte native will finalize his summer visit plans soon.
“I will be finalizing my summer visit schedule this weekend,” stated Cowan. “I’m just focused on getting through this week of finals.”
While Cowan has plenty of time to develop criteria in what he is looking for in a program, the Providence Day star already has a good idea of what he wants.
“Making my decision on a school will ultimately come down to where I feel the most comfortable and at home,” stated Cowan. “It is also important to me that academics are highlighted just as much as athletics.
“The school would need to be family oriented, have a positive atmosphere, and be very welcoming.”
