Notre Dame Could Be "Perfect Fit" For 2028 CA OL Apisai Fifita
Apisai Fifita didn’t see the offer coming, but it meant everything when it arrived.
Notre Dame extended a scholarship offer to the 2028 California offensive lineman during his visit to South Bend on Saturday, turning what was already a positive experience into a defining moment in his recruitment.
“It was kind of surprising at first, but it was a blessing,” Fifita said.
That reaction carried extra meaning.
Fifita grew up following Notre Dame and never expected to find himself in position to earn an offer from the Irish.
“I grew up watching the team and I was a big fan,” Fifita said. “I never thought I would have the opportunity to go there.”
The Oaks Christian High School standout holds offers from schools like Arizona, California, Washington, Hawaii, San Jose State and now Notre Dame among others.
The 6-foot-7, 260-pounder spent much of his time with offensive line coach Joe Rudolph, who made a strong impression.
“He was just telling me he likes my highlights and stuff,” Fifita said. “He told me to keep my grades up and things like that.”
Rudolph’s emphasis on development stood out as he continues to evaluate his options.
“I think he’s a cool dude,” Fifita said. “He knows what he’s talking about. He wants to develop players, not just for football, but in class and in life.”
Fifita spent time around some of the current players, which reinforced what he was already seeing in the Irish’s culture.
“I think they’re the kind of people that will support me,” Fifita said. “They support each other and I feel like I can fit in, not just as a player, but as part of the family.”
Fifita is still early in the process and plans to take his time.
A return visit to South Bend is already on his mind, with spending time inside Notre Dame Stadium at the top of his list for his next trip.
“Probably in the summer,” Fifita said of when that could occur.
In the meantime, he will continue working through his visit schedule with a trip to Miami coming up after recent stops at UCLA, Texas A&M and USC.
But the Irish certainly opened his eyes this weekend
“I learned a lot and I feel like Notre Dame could be a perfect fit for me as a person.”
