Notre Dame Adds Winthrop Transfer Logan Duncomb to Kickstart Roster Rebuild
Notre Dame has its first building block of the offseason, landing former Winthrop standout Logan Duncomb as Micah Shrewsberry begins rebuilding the roster heading into year four in South Bend.
The 6-foot-10, 230-pound center arrives after a breakout 2025–26 campaign, averaging 18.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per game while earning Big South Player of the Year honors.
Duncomb’s efficiency stands out even more; he shot 60 percent from the field and 73 percent from the free-throw line, offering a significant upgrade compared to former Irish big man Carson Towt’s 32.1 percent at the stripe.
The Cincinnati native began his career at Indiana, where he saw limited action across two seasons before transferring to Winthrop. After a quiet first year (3.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg), he developed into one of the most productive big men in the Big South Conference.
Duncomb posted 13 points and four rebounds against Arkansas, eight points and 10 rebounds facing Nebraska, and added 11 points with nine boards against Texas Tech.
Notre Dame is essentially starting from scratch, with Braeden Shrewsberry the lone returning key contributor. Duncomb, a graduate transfer, immediately fills a major hole in the frontcourt and provides a proven interior scoring option.
The defensive side, however, raises some questions. Notre Dame ideally needed a rim protector to complement rising sophomore Brady Koehler, and that’s not Duncomb’s strength.
He averaged just 0.8 blocks per game last season, with a high of three in a single outing, and his defensive performance rating (-0.09) ranked just 36th in the conference.
Offensively, though, the value is clear. Duncomb posted a 4.24 offensive performance rating, second-best in the league, giving the Irish potential to score on the block.
Notre Dame needed proven production and Duncomb delivers that right away as Shrewsberry continues to rebuild the roster.
Cincinnati was the other major contender for Duncomb. The Bearcats landed center Riley Allenspach on Monday.
