Kingston Preyear‍ didn’t need much time to process Notre Dame’s offer.

It caught him off guard, but it landed exactly the way the Irish hoped it would.

The 2028 Alabama quarterback picked up the offer earlier this week when Irish quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli made his way to Benjamin Russell High School, becoming just the second signal-caller to receive an offer from Notre Dame in the cycle.

The delivery itself was simple. The reaction wasn’t.

“I was on the board and then he just randomly said it out of nowhere,” Preyear said. “He was like, ‘You have an offer from Notre Dame.’

“Man, I was shocked. Just to get recruited by Notre Dame is a blessing, but now that I have an offer and can actually possibly attend Notre Dame, it’s unreal.”

The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder visited South Bend earlier this spring, giving him an understanding of what the program offers. That familiarity helped frame his excitement once the offer came.

“It’s just the football,” he said. “You’re playing on a super high level and then you can get your education at an elite school. That education is top notch. It could set me up for life.”

That message carried over into Guidugli’s visit.

After the talk of X’s and O’s on the board, the focus quickly shifted to getting Preyear back on campus, this time with his family.

“Getting my mom back down there,” he said. “Letting my family check out campus and things like that.”

That next step feels likely.

“For sure,” he said. “100 percent.”

And it’s one he believes will go over quite well with his mother.

“ I want her to see everything that I saw, it was great,” said Preyear. “I want her to just see that and she'll love it.”

The Alexander City, Ala., native is still working through his visit schedule, with a trip to Clemson currently on the books and additional stops expected before he moves toward a relatively decision.

“I’m committing in the summer,” he said.

When that decision comes, the criteria will be straightforward.

“Development,” he said. “Coaches who can develop me and take me from where I am and get me to where I want to go.”

Along with Notre Dame, Preyear is also considering Alabama, Auburn, Vanderbilt and Florida and “possibly” Clemson.
