Tuesday was a big day for 2029 Melbourne (Fla.) running back Tyrese Jefferson‍.

The 6-foot, 170-pound freshman is already closing in on 20 offers, with major programs consistently stopping by to see workouts.

Notre Dame joined that list this week, making the trip to Melbourne and extending an offer that immediately resonated.

“It was really just an inspiration for me to keep going,” Jefferson told ISD. “I can't just stop in one place. It’s a great blessing and opportunity for me. Notre Dame is definitely in my top five.”

Even before the offer, Jefferson had a strong understanding of Notre Dame’s tradition at running back, especially because of Jeremiyah Love.

“I know my favorite running back played there, Jeremiyah Love,” stated Jefferson.

It’d be easy to see why recruits gravitate to Love for his electric plays, but Jefferson noticed something different.

“Just his impact as a team player,” explained Jefferson. “Not him being just an all-about-him player. He’s a team player. Jeremiyah Love is just an all-around player. A lot of people look up to him. He's a great player.”

Despite the early spotlight, Jefferson has stayed grounded.

The Florida native credits his mindset and faith for keeping everything in perspective.

“It's great,” Jefferson said. “It's just all God. It's just great blessings. I'm just happy to be here and doing what I'm doing. I have to keep striving and keep going. Just do it for the fam.”

Jefferson’s offer list includes some heavy hitters, as Florida State, Indiana, and Miami have also offered, which has been surprising to the Melbourne star, but he also expected it, given the work he put in before high school.

“I was kind of expecting it coming into high school because I've just been working hard ever since I was a kid,” Jefferson explained. “I've just been working hard, working hard. All I do is work hard.

“I kind of knew my hard work was going to pay off eventually. I’m kind of surprised it happened as a freshman. I was expecting it towards junior year or senior year, but I just did my thing my freshman year.”

As a freshman, Jefferson ran for 798 yards and 15 touchdowns, while adding 21 receptions for 319 yards and three more scores.

Like Love, Jefferson prides himself on being more than just a ball carrier.

“The best thing I do right now is just being a team player, not just running the ball,” Jefferson said. “Scoring the ball, running the ball, blocking, learning all the schemes and helping bring players up.

“I need to work on this next upcoming season, which is just more agility and more learning to be able to go to the next level.”

Jefferson’s ecruitment isn’t slowing down anytime soon. He will have a busy summer ahead, with visits lined up to Alabama, Miami, Indiana and Notre Dame.
