Notre Dame doesn’t hand out quarterback offers casually, especially not this early in the process.

That reality made Logan Lucero’s latest offer stand out even more.

The 2029 Texas quarterback picked up an offer from Notre Dame last week after quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli visited Parish Episcopal in Dallas, making Lucero the first quarterback in the class to land an Irish offer.

“It meant a lot,” Lucero told Irish Sports Daily. “There’s a lot of Notre Dame blood in my family. We’re Catholic, so it was cool to see something that was kind of a mountaintop offer for me. That’s something that I’ve been chasing since I was a little kid.”

The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder also holds offers from schools like Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss and Arkansas among others, but Notre Dame’s approach to quarterback recruiting made this one feel different.

“It was interesting,” Lucero said. “I think I was the first 2029 quarterback they offered, so that meant a lot. It’s definitely a ride that is unique and I don’t think a lot of people are able to experience.”

Lucero came away especially impressed with Guidugli during the visit.

“I think he’s just a genuine person,” Lucero said of Guidugli. “He’s not just a great coach. He’s just a better person. He’s someone fun to be around.”

That authenticity mattered.

“I think that means a lot, especially for me, for someone to invest in me young,” Lucero continued.

The next step in the process could bring Lucero to South Bend for the first time.

“That’s the goal,” he said. “We’re going to try to get up to South Bend this summer and just kind of see where that takes us.”

The visit would carry significance beyond football as well.

“I’m really excited to go see Touchdown Jesus and the Grotto and stuff like that,” Lucero said. “That’ll be super cool.”

For now, much of the focus remains on development and continuing to build toward another strong season at Parish Episcopal.

“We’re trying to put together another state championship season,” Lucero said. “Just continue to make plays on the field and put them on tape.”

Even this early in the process, Lucero already has a clear idea of what will matter most when the time eventually comes to narrow things down.

“Really just coaches who invest in me and the development factor of all the schools,” he explained. “Relationship-wise, I want to go somewhere where I feel comfortable and I feel like I trust them and they trust me.”

As for a timeline, Lucero is not rushing anything.

“I think it’ll come to me at the right time. As soon as I could, that would be awesome, but there’s no rush for me.”
