On the list of toughest places to win in FBS college football, Rice has to be close to the top. It’s been a dozen years since their last winning season and tougher academic restrictions along with limited resources make it harder to recruit both high school players and transfers.

With that in mind, they might have hired the perfect coach in Scott Abell. He took Davidson to the FCS playoffs in three straight years and was 47-28 at a program that doesn’t give out scholarships.
