2019 NJ Speedster Has ND Interest
Rahmir Johnson knows what college scouts like about his game, everybody does.
“My speed,” the 2019 New Jersey running back says.
“My speed is the biggest part of me and my game, so that’s what they’re really interested in.”
The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder has been hand-timed at 4.37 in the 40-yard dash and laser-timed at 4.46.
That speed has allowed him to excel on the field at Bergen Catholic High School, which has led to early offers from Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Boston College, Temple and Toledo.
“It’s really great,” Johnson says of the early attention. “I don’t really focus on offers. I’m trying to focus on helping my team win a state championship, but it’s great. It’s a great experience being so young with many years to go.”
In addition to the schools that have offered, he’s also receiving interest from several others, including Notre Dame.
“They want me to come up to their camp in June, their showcase camp,” Johnson says of the Irish. “I’m going to try to make it out, I have to talk to my coach about that.”
He knows enough about Notre Dame to know he’s interested.
“I like how they’re Independent and can play any school they want,” he says. “I like competition and they play the greatest competition in the world. I think it’s a great school. I go to a Catholic school, so I feel like it’d be a great fit if I was to go there.”
Notre Dame assistant coach Mike Elko has stayed in touch with Johnson via social media.
“He’s very interested,” said Johnson. “They want me to come up to their camp really bad, so I’m going to try to make that happen.”
He’s already made visits to Rutgers and Temple and wants to make it out to other schools soon.
Johnson knows what he’s looking for in a college program.
“Education is key, environment, coaching and how they’re going to use me on the field and wherever my family feels comfortable with me going.”
