Notre Dame needed to bolster its pitching staff this offseason, and the Irish have landed an experienced arm with proven production.
Stevens Institute of Technology grad transfer RHP David Finch will spend his final collegiate season in South Bend after establishing himself as one of the top pitchers at the Division III level.
The 6-foot-3, 213-pound Tennessee native broke out in 2025, earning Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Pitcher of the Year honors. Finch posted a 3-2 record with a 3.70 ERA while striking out 36 batters in just 24.1 innings. Opposing hitters managed only a .228 batting average against him.
Finch took another major step forward in 2026 after transitioning into a starting role. He finished 7-1 with a 2.66 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 64.1 innings while holding opponents to a .192 batting average. One of his most dominant performances came in April when he struck out a season-high 10 batters against King's.
His 2026 campaign earned a host of postseason accolades, including First Team All-MAC Freedom honors, Fourth Team ABCA All-American recognition, First Team ABCA All-Region IV honors and Second Team All-Region IV recognition from D3baseball.com.
Over three seasons at Stevens, Finch compiled a 12-5 record with a 2.92 ERA and 142 strikeouts across 118 innings.
Finch arrives at Notre Dame with a fastball that reaches 94 mph and a slider that the Irish will look to maximize. The strikeout ability and experience are two areas Notre Dame needed to add from the portal and Finch fits the bill.
