Logan Thompson‍ arrived at last Friday’s Irish Invasion looking to learn more about Notre Dame.

By the end of the event, the 2028 Illinois defensive back had little hesitation placing the Irish among his favorites.

"Notre Dame is most definitely one of my top schools," Thompson said when asked where the Irish stand.

"I'd say this is one of the better experiences I've had as far as visiting a school, interaction with the coaches, the players and everything."

The Althoff Catholic standout made the trip to South Bend looking for an opportunity to build relationships and get a closer look at a program that has been recruiting him since extending an offer this spring.

Notre Dame delivered on both fronts.

"Really just knowing it's such a prestigious school," Thompson said when asked what drew him to campus. "It's not too far from home. I thought it was a good atmosphere and a good time to build relationships with the coaches at this part of my recruiting process."

The visit exceeded expectations.

"I ain't going to lie, it exceeded them," Thompson said.

The people within the program were the biggest reason for that.

"The way the coaches and the players that were coaching me up, the way they interacted with me, it really felt like I was back at home at my high school," Thompson explained. "I ain't going to say I didn't expect that, but it was just one of those things."

One of the primary objectives of the trip was spending time with defensive backs coach Aaron Henry and safeties coach Jevaughn Codlin.

Thompson had not previously built a relationship with Henry, making Friday his first opportunity to work directly with him.

"It was great," Thompson said. "The way they kind of uplifted me the whole time, I never felt down on myself and even when I did have a thought, they were right there to just tell me, 'Next play.'

"They were helping me out with my technique or whatever I needed, so it was good."

As one of the Midwest's fastest-rising defensive backs, Thompson appreciated both the instruction and encouragement throughout the workout.

The 6-foot, 160-pounder has already established himself as one of the more explosive athletes in the 2028 class. At the Chicago Under Armour Camp earlier this spring, he ran a 4.46-second 40-yard dash, a 4.09 shuttle and posted a 10-foot-2 broad jump.

In addition to Notre Dame, Thompson already owns offers from schools like LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, Missouri and Virginia Tech among others.

The visit also included participation in Notre Dame's Grill & Chill event before camp began.

According to Thompson, his team left with bragging rights.

"Shout out Team Six," Thompson laughed. "My team, we won. The presentation was good, well-done steak. The judges loved it."

Beyond the competition and social events, the trip reinforced why Notre Dame has become such a significant factor in his recruitment.

As a defensive back, Thompson has paid attention to the way the Irish have developed players at the position and believes the scheme could fit his skill set.

"I've been watching Notre Dame for a couple years now," Thompson said. "It's great to get recruited by them as a corner. Everybody can't play corner. So it's good that a school like Notre Dame is reaching out and they see my potential to fit their system."

The summer schedule isn't slowing down.

Thompson is scheduled to visit Wisconsin later this month before making an unofficial visit to Indiana. Still, Notre Dame's latest impression appears likely to stick.
