I’m not sure Notre Dame has ever gone a run in defensive line recruiting quite like this. They already have a great group committed in 2027 and they added yet another top prospect with a pledge from Abraham Sesay.
A freaky athlete with elite testing numbers when he was a sophomore (9-2.7 broad jump, 7.3 3-cone), he measured in with a 81.8 inch wingspan and 33.8 inch arms prior to his junior season as well. He has the potential to develop into a special player for the Irish.
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 220
Projected Position: Defensive end
ISD Grade: 96 (4-star)
National Average Grade: 95.7 (4-star)
What he does best:
He’s an incredibly twitchy athlete. His first step is outstanding and he can be disruptive from the backside. He can blow up the mesh point in a hurry like he did on this play.
His lateral explosiveness is devastating when slanting and any offensive lineman who opens up the gate inside could get exposed.
Sesay wins with athleticism and effort. His speed combined with his motor are critically important traits when it comes to rushing the passer. He’s a reactive athlete who can turn the corner.
What he needs to improve:
He’s long, but like a lot of defensive linemen his age, he doesn’t use his length well yet. He should be able to convert speed to power once he develops a long arm.
Overall he’s just very raw as a pass rusher in terms of hands and technicality. Sesay will be incredibly difficult to block as he improves this area of his game.
What’s his ceiling?
Yep, it’s yet another defensive line commit with a sky high ceiling. Sesay hasn’t even come close to scratching the surface of the player he can. He has a lot of room to grow both physically and technically.
We’ll see what kind of steps he takes as a senior, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he isn’t someone who is a day one contributor because of the areas he needs to develop and the depth chart when he arrives. He has all the tools to eventually develop into one of the top pass rushers in college football.
Sesay’s length, athleticism, and motor are reminiscent of former Notre Dame star Justin Tuck. It’s a lofty expectations to compare Sesay to one of the best pass rushers in the history of the program, but he that’s the kind of raw talent he possesses.
