2028 Andrean LB Javier McCoy Earns Notre Dame Offer, High on Irish Following Camp
Andrean High School (Ind.) and Notre Dame have built a strong connection on the recruiting trail over the years.
On Tuesday, 2028 linebacker Javier McCoy became the latest 59er offered by Notre Dame following his camp performance in South Bend.
“Everything was so nice there,” McCoy told ISD. “There was great energy from the coaches and staff. They taught us a ton of stuff.”
McCoy spent much of his time working with Notre Dame linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary and left campus with a better understanding of both the position and the program's culture.
“I learned a lot more than I was expecting,” explained McCoy. “Coach BJ treated you like I was part of the brotherhood there. It was great being there and I liked how he coaches.”
McCoy is well aware of the path Andrean alum and Notre Dame captain Drayk Bowen has forged in South Bend. While the two didn't cross paths during the visit, Bowen's success resonated with the rising linebacker.
“Definitely,” McCoy said when asked if Bowen’s success matters now that he has an offer from Notre Dame. “Just knowing he came from Andrean and he’s playing at Notre Dame, he’s going to be a two-time captain. It shows I could possibly do that too.”
The 6-foot-2, 221-pound linebacker first emerged on the national radar this spring with a standout showing at the Under Armour camp circuit. McCoy posted a 4.79-second 40-yard dash, a 3.99 shuttle, a 30.2-inch vertical jump and a 114-inch broad jump.
McCoy’s athleticism is off the charts, but he remains focused on refining his game.
“I’m working on coverage,” McCoy stated. “What I do well at outside linebacker is reading the tackle and reacting fast if it's a run or a pass.”
While his camp schedule is complete after stops in Bloomington and South Bend, McCoy's recruitment is only beginning to take shape. In addition to Notre Dame, he currently holds offers from Purdue and Toledo.
Monday marked the first day college programs could directly contact 2028 prospects, and McCoy quickly heard from several schools.
“I heard from Louisville,” said McCoy. “I took a game visit there, so it was nice seeing Louisville text me. Kansas State, Michigan State and some other schools texted me.”
