COMMITMENT | 2027 Four-Star WR Julius Jones Jr. Commits to Notre Dame
Monday has been a long time coming for 2027 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) receiver Julius Jones Jr.
The four-star prospect announced his commitment to Notre Dame over Miami, choosing to follow in the footsteps of his father, former Irish standout Julius Jones.
Notre Dame had been aggressive in Jones' recruitment from the beginning, extending an offer on Pot of Gold Day in 2025. Despite his family ties to the program, however, Jones had never visited South Bend before receiving that scholarship offer.
“My dad always said to save it for a special moment because of the mystique of the campus and just everything about it,” Jones Jr. said.
That said, Jones grew up a Notre Dame fan and has noticed the nation's love-hate relationship with the Fighting Irish.
“I always grew up knowing that people either love or hate Notre Dame, so I had to choose a side and I chose a side,” Jones stated. “I love it.
Notre Dame wide receivers coach Mike Brown played a pivotal role throughout the recruiting process and helped make the decision easy.
“He's great,” Jones said of Brown. “He's really cool. He's a cool guy. He's down on earth. He's easy to talk to and he knows a lot. He knows what he's talking about, so whenever I talk to him, I have a great conversation. I always leave learning something.”
Head coach Marcus Freeman’s relationship with Jones was also significant. Freeman made multiple trips to South Florida to ensure Jones knew just how much of a priority he was for the Irish.
“He's great,” stated Jones. “He's really cool. He's a cool guy. He's down on earth. He's easy to talk to and he knows a lot. He knows what he's talking about, so whenever I talk to him, I have a great conversation. I always leave learning something. I hope to keep building my relationship with him.”
Jones now joins a growing list of Notre Dame legacies who will continue to follow in their fathers footsteps.
“Having all those other guys over there with the legacies and following in their father's footsteps, it'd be something cool,” said Jones. “As a kid, you always look up to your father; everything he does, you try to replicate. Being able to have that chance to actually step up and do what he did is something really great as well.”
