DT Segun Alexander recently re-classified to the 2027 class and it meant that his process was going to be sped up. His official visit was actually his first visit to Notre Dame, so it was difficult to know what to expect.
It turns out it didn’t take long for him to discover that Notre Dame was the right fit and now Alexander joins an already stacked defensive line class for the Irish. He may not have been on the radar as long as some others, but he is an outstanding prospect with an extremely high ceiling.
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 285
Projected Position: Defensive tackle
ISD Grade: 92 (4-star)
National Average Grade: 89.8 (3-star)
What he does best:
He’s a powerful player who flashes tremendous upper body violence. He’s got some shock in his hands with his punch.
Alexander is extremely twitchy. He’s going to present problems for offensive linemen with his first step quickness. It’s not hard to see why had 13 sacks during the 2025 season while winning from multiple alignments.
Defensive tackles can rarely be great pass rushers if they don’t have elite lateral agility. He checks that box.
He has an awesome motor. There’s a want-to with his game that really jumps out.
What he needs to improve:
My one big question about him was size and how big he was going to get, but after speaking to some people about his frame and where his physical development is currently, I don’t see it being a huge concern.
Alexander is someone who could be effective as an undersized interior defensive lineman because of his other traits, but should be able to put on the kind of weight to eventually become an effective three-down player for the Irish.
His hands are already advanced at this stage of his development. I think he can really take off once he refines his footwork as a pass rusher.
What’s his ceiling?
From the first few plays I saw, I knew this was a Charlie Partridge type of player. He’s exactly the kind of twitchy interior pass rusher who has thrived with Partridge at his previous coaching stops.
Alexander is originally from Canada and moved to Georgia in 2023. It sure didn’t take him long to look like an SEC caliber defensive linemen. It’s always a good thing when I watch a player and like him more each time I watch his film. That was the case with Alexander.
He has the potential to be a special interior pass rusher and be a disruptive presence in the middle of Notre Dame’s defense. I see a lot of Howard Cross in his game with his active hands, active motor, and great first step. He’s bigger than Cross was at the same age and should end bigger than him at Notre Dame as well.
Who he could be:
A bigger Howard Cross
