In hindsight, maybe it was a warning sign that should have said it all about expectations for 2016. Brian Kelly saying that the team needed to do the ordinary things extraordinarily well could have been translated as coach-speak for “We don’t have enough playmakers”.
And the truth is they didn’t. It is awful tough to win games at any level of football unless teams execute well, but teams can make up for some poor execution when they have elite players who can make a play when it’s needed most.
