Landon Miller didn't need to wait for the workout.
The 2028 California linebacker received a scholarship offer from Notre Dame before he even took the field during a one-day camp visit earlier this month, reinforcing just how highly linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary and the Irish staff already thought of him.
"I went out to South Bend for a one-day visit and workout with Coach BJ," Miller told Irish Sports Daily. "He offered me before we did the workout."
The offer immediately stood out to the De La Salle High School standout, who had already been keeping a close eye on Notre Dame.
"I was really excited when I got the offer," Miller said. "Notre Dame has been a school I have been interested in for a long time."
The trip also gave Miller his first opportunity to spend extended time with head coach Marcus Freeman and the rest of the Irish coaching staff.
"The coaching staff was great," Miller said. "It was great to get to know them in person and sit down with Coach Freeman and chat it up."
While Miller arrived with a strong appreciation of Notre Dame's football tradition, seeing the campus firsthand only reinforced that impression.
"I just know the history behind the school and football program is legendary," Miller said. "It was great to get to see it in person."
The California native also has connections to the program through former De La Salle stars. Current Notre Dame tight end Cooper Flanagan and former Irish defensive lineman Isaiah Foskey both made the same journey from Concord, Calif., to South Bend, something Miller hopes to learn more about as his recruitment continues.
"I would love to get in touch with them about how they like and liked South Bend and the program," Miller said. "Also how the transition from California to Indiana went.
"The next step is to certainly keep in touch, get to know the staff better and maybe get out to a game day for another visit next fall," he said.
Miller also plans to visit Oregon, USC and Ohio State during the season as he continues working through his options. He has offers from all three national powers along with offers from schools like Cal, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State and Georgia Tech among others.
As the recruiting process moves forward, he already knows the qualities he'll prioritize when the time comes to make a decision.
"The biggest factors for me are the relationships with the coaches, the development they can offer on and off the field and also what a degree from that school would mean for my future."
