Notre Dame RB Commit Lathan Whisenton Building Relationships Before Arrival

Lathan Whisenton‍ already knew Notre Dame was home.

The 2027 Texas running back spent last month’s official visit strengthening relationships with the coaches and future teammates he'll soon call family.

"It went smooth," Whisenton told Irish Sports Daily. "It was great. Couldn't complain at all."

The official visit gave Whisenton another opportunity to spend time with head coach Marcus Freeman and the rest of the coaching staff while continuing to build chemistry with the other members of Notre Dame's 2027 recruiting class.

"We ate a lot, we had meetings and just went to Coach Freeman's house," Whisenton said. "It was very big and we really just chilled, talked, made connections and bonded."

Those relationships were one of the biggest takeaways from the weekend.

"Of course it helps to have chemistry as a team," said Whisenton. "I feel like having a good relationship with your teammates is just a fun thing to have. I feel like it's good."

One of the future teammates Whisenton got to know better was fellow running back commit Isaiah Rogers.

"He's really chill," Whisenton said of Rogers. "I feel like he's really like me. I feel like he's kind of laid back. He's pretty big. I feel like we get along pretty well."

The two are expected to form another solid running back duo for the Irish, something Whisenton believes will be enhanced under running backs coach Ja'Juan Seider.

"I feel like me and him can do really great things, especially with Coach Seider," Whisenton said. "You know he knows how to use two backs, so I can't wait to see what the future holds for us."

With the recruiting process behind him, the focus has shifted toward preparing for his senior season at Waco Midway High School before making the move to South Bend.

"I've just been big on the JUGS machine, getting my hands right and getting my mobility right, stretching and getting more flexible," Whisenton said.

While his focus remains on his senior season, he acknowledged his anticipation for what's ahead continues to grow.

"I'm really excited. I can't wait to leave home and really spend time with my new teammates."
