Chris Morillo has spent his high school career doing a little bit of everything.
However, Notre Dame and several other college programs see the 2028 Florida standout at linebacker. Irish linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary made that clear when the Irish offered him a scholarship on Sunday.
"My coach had been in contact with a couple recruiting guys and then they managed to get ahold of my film,” Morillo told Irish Sports Daily. “They liked it, so they gave me a call."
The Irish quickly explained what stood out on tape.
"They said they definitely like how I'm very versatile," Morillo said. "I'm being recruited at linebacker, but in high school I play wide receiver, DB, linebacker, kick returner, punt returner and wide receiver."
Notre Dame joins an impressive offer list for Morillo that already includes Florida State, Miami, Florida, UCF, USF, Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Louisville and Kentucky among others.
The offer immediately became one of the biggest in his recruitment.
"It was definitely very exciting," Morillo said. "They're coming off a national championship run a couple years ago. It's definitely a place I could see myself being."
The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder also came away impressed after his first conversation with Jean-Mary.
"It was actually very good," Morillo said. "One of the best conversations I've had with a coach. We had a lot of things in common and he's actually from my area, so he said it would be easy to stop by."
The next step is getting to South Bend for a closer look at the program.
"I'm definitely going up there to visit them to see them versus Miami," Morillo said of the Irish’s November showdown against the Hurricanes.
"Miami is also another top contender in my recruiting, so I want to see how that game goes."
While he's there, Morillo hopes to learn more than just what Notre Dame looks like on Saturdays.
"I definitely want to get a feel for the program and the facilities," he said. "See how they build players and take them to the next level."
Morillo also plans to attend Florida-Florida State, Auburn-Georgia, Texas A&M-Georgia and Alabama-Tennessee games this fall as he continues evaluating his options.
Although his recruitment is still in its early stages, he already knows the three factors that will carry the most weight when it's time to choose a school.
"Definitely relationships, the program and how they take you to the next level."
