When Elijah Cromwell left his first visit to Notre Dame, the Irish had firmly positioned themselves among his leaders.
Several months later, nothing has changed.
The 2028 Colorado running back remains in regular contact with Notre Dame running backs coach Ja'Juan Seider and Director of Recruiting Carter Auman as the Irish continue building on the momentum established during Cromwell's spring trip to South Bend.
"I'm still talking to Coach Seider and Carter," Cromwell told Irish Sports Daily.
Those conversations have only reinforced the positive impression Seider made during Cromwell's visit in March.
"When I talk to Coach Seider, it's usually just about regular things," Cromwell said. "I love Coach Seider. I like the way he coaches. He's very nice and caring for sure."
Auman has also become an important part of the relationship.
"Carter is cool too," Cromwell said. "He was one of the first ones to call me on June 15."
The urgency the Irish showed the day they were able to directly contact Cromwell left an impression.
"That means a lot to me," Cromwell said. "That means that they want me."
Notre Dame remains firmly in the mix alongside Georgia, Oregon, Washington and Michigan, all of which continue to push for the Cherry Creek High School standout. Cromwell has made trips to Georgia and Oregon since his spring visit to South Bend.
The next step for the Irish is getting him back to campus.
"I'm going to try to come out for a game," Cromwell said.
While he has already experienced Notre Dame once in person, Cromwell knows exactly what he'll be watching if he returns this fall.
"I want to see how they use their backs again," he said.
He's also planning game-day visits to Georgia and Oregon before turning his attention toward a decision.
Cromwell isn't rushing the process, but he isn’t dragging it out indefinitely, either.
He’s expecting to make a decision shortly after his junior season, likely in late fall or early winter, making the next few months especially important for the programs battling for one of the country's top running backs.
When that time comes, the 5-foot-11, 180-pounder says he's looking for a program that emphasizes development and isn't afraid to coach him hard.
"Development and hard coaching for sure. Just a coach that can get on me and tell me when I'm wrong."
