Lukas Prock has watched Notre Dame's quarterback board change dramatically over the past several weeks.
But that hasn’t changed the 2028 New Jersey quarterback’s opinion of the Irish.
Prock remains in regular contact with quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli as Notre Dame continues to pursue one of its most important remaining targets in the class.
Guidugli has encouraged Prock to take a thorough approach throughout the process, even though both understand how quickly quarterback recruiting can move.
"Just moving through this process steadily and making sure all the boxes are being checked," Prock said of the contact with Guidugli. "Going through it and making sure I know what I'm looking for in a program, just really going through everything together."
Prock already has a clear picture of what those boxes include.
"Relationships are the biggest thing," he said. "Then I think stability in the coaching staff and the program, talent, the degree obviously means something at Notre Dame. That's non-negotiable there, so that's good. Development's another big one."
Those conversations along with a spring trip to South Bend have strengthened Prock’s opinion of Guidugli.
"I think he's a great guy from what I know of him," Prock said. "I think he's a great coach. He knows what he's doing. He teaches his players the right way.
"When I was in the meetings in the spring, I got to see that and how they attack it in the quarterback room and how smart all the quarterbacks are because to go to Notre Dame, you've got to be smart. So that helps too in the quarterback room and the team itself."
Prock currently lists Notre Dame alongside Florida, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio State as his top five and says he'd like to make a decision sooner rather than later if everything lines up.
"I want to make a decision pretty soon just because if I feel a certain way towards a program and they feel the same way back, I don't think there's a point of really waiting just for that spot because it may get taken," he said.
One of those spots appeared to be gone recently when fellow New Jersey quarterback Trey Tagliaferri committed to Notre Dame before later reopening his recruitment days later.
Prock said the Irish handled that situation exactly the way he hoped they would.
"They let me know that he was maybe going to commit," Prock said. "I actually train with Trey, so I kind of know what happened. But yeah, they were very communicative and I appreciate that. I think that's the best way to do it.
"That was kind of a messy scenario, so I'm not going to blame anybody, but I don't think that takes away anything from what I think of Notre Dame."
If anything, the experience may have reinforced why Notre Dame remains one of Prock's top options.
"I think it's different from any other place," he said. "Just Notre Dame itself, the academics mixed with the sports. They're not in a conference, which is different. The way they do things is different. I think it's really cool. It's a really cool place.
"I know some people who went there and played football there and they said it was awesome. I think it's unique and it matches everything else, the football aspect too, of development, relationships and all that stuff."
