Notre Dame has already shown Theo Schott what life is like during the offseason.
This fall, the 2028 Indiana tight end wants to get a closer look at how offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Mike Denbrock's offense comes to life on Saturdays.
Communication between Schott and the Irish staff picked up once coaches were permitted to begin directly contacting members of the 2028 class on June 15, with much of the conversation centering on what he showcased at Irish Invasion a week earlier.
"The recruiting period opened up right after I went to camp basically," Schott told Irish Sports Daily. "So we mostly talked about my performance at camp. They thought I did really well and only good things."
Schott continues to communicate primarily with Denbrock and assistant tight ends coach Harris Bivin.
"They definitely have a great perspective on every aspect of the game," Schott said. "You have Denbrock who's the OC, so he knows everything and he's your tight ends coach too. Then Bivin knows more of the blocking game.
"So when you have those two weapons who kind of can cover every spot of being a tight end and being on offense, it really helps."
The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder was at the USC game last fall and made a trip back in April as well. He plans to return to South Bend this fall, although he hasn't settled on a specific game.
"I'll for sure get up there this fall,” he said. “I don't have a specific game yet, but we'll definitely be up there."
Schott knows another visit to South Bend is important, even after already making multiple trips to campus.
"Just continuing to build the relationships with the coaches and continuing to see how they use the tight ends again because each year it changes," Schott said. "Sometimes it doesn't change much, sometimes it changes dramatically.
"Just seeing it in person, seeing the team, seeing the culture and just a continuation of relationships and seeing what I like and dislike and just kind of keep going from there."
Notre Dame won't be his only stop this fall.
The Zionsville High School standout hopes to also visit Ohio State, Michigan, Indiana, Texas Tech and Oregon as he continues evaluating his options before eventually narrowing his list.
"I'm really looking forward to this fall and seeing where the recruiting process keeps going because around fall and after season, that's when the list starts to narrow down," Schott said. "So I'm excited about all of it."
Although he isn't rushing toward a commitment, Schott expects the process to accelerate after his junior season.
"I would say still sometime around next year. After the season is probably when I'll announce maybe a numbered list, like what my top schools are. Around next spring-ish, next summer, kind of just the same time around everyone else I'll make a commitment."
