COMMITMENT | Elite 2028 DE Darieon Prescott Picks Notre Dame
Throughout his tenure as Notre Dame head coach, Marcus Freeman has consistently stressed that the foundation of his program would be built on the offensive and defensive lines.
After assembling one of the best defensive line classes in program history in the 2027 cycle, the Irish carried that momentum into 2028 on Monday when elite Illinois defensive end Darieon Prescott announced his commitment to Notre Dame.
Notre Dame's 2027 defensive line haul already featured David Folorunsho, Abraham Sesay, Jackson Vaughn, Aidan O'Neil and Segun Alexander before the Irish capped the class last week by landing elite Chicago defensive lineman Brayden Parks. Less than a week later, Freeman and defensive line coach Charlie Partridge secured another Chicago cornerstone up front in Prescott.
The 6-foot-4, 252-pounder from Bolingbrook High School becomes the third member of Notre Dame's 2028 recruiting class, joining Florida defensive back Andre Jones and Tennessee kicker Owen Davies.
Prescott chose the Irish over fellow finalists Oregon and Texas A&M after also collecting offers from schools like Ohio State, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Purdue and several others.
Prescott quickly emerged as one of Notre Dame's top priorities in the 2028 class.
The Bolingbrook, Ill., native visited South Bend multiple times, allowing the Irish to build a strong relationship with one of the Midwest's top prospects.
The commitment gives Notre Dame another highly talented athlete with the type of physical tools the coaching staff covets on the edge. Prescott possesses an impressive blend of size, length and explosiveness while playing with a relentless motor, giving him the upside to develop into one of the nation's top defensive linemen as his technique continues to mature.
That combination is becoming a familiar theme for Notre Dame's defensive line recruiting.
The Irish's 2027 class is already viewed as one of the deepest and most talented defensive line groups in program history. Prescott’s pledge ensures the next class will feature star power as well while further validating the blueprint Freeman laid out when he was given the head job.
The Irish aren't just winning recruiting battles under Partridge, they're beating some of college football's biggest programs for elite talent at one of the sport's premium positions.
