The Notre Dame-USC rivalry is officially back.
After what was expected to be a temporary pause beginning in 2026, the two blue-blood programs have announced a new four-game home-and-home series beginning in 2030.
USC will host Notre Dame on Aug. 31, 2030, before the Fighting Irish welcome the Trojans to South Bend on Aug. 30, 2031.
Dates for the 2032 and 2033 matchups have not yet been finalized, but both games will be played during the first three weeks of the season.
The Irish defeated USC 34-24 in South Bend in the 2025 meeting and own a 53-38-5 advantage in the all-time series, including an impressive 30-14-1 record at Notre Dame Stadium.
Marcus Freeman is also 3-1 against the Trojans, with double-digit victories in each of the last three seasons, while Notre Dame has won eight of the last 10 meetings.
Following last season's victory, Freeman explained why preserving historic rivalry games matters.
“I told the guys and I reminded myself, you remember rivalry games,” said Freeman. “I remember my rivalry games from Pee Wee to high school to college and the ones I've been a part of as a coach. Those are games that mean more.
"You remember obviously the outcomes, but you obviously remember some things you did in that game that led to the outcome. They mean just a little bit more because of what it represents for the university, what it represents for your fans, the players before us, and the players to come.”
In 2021, Notre Dame had announced a home-and-home series with Indiana but that is now off the schedule. According to a source, Indiana informed Notre Dame that it was canceling the series.
