BREAKING: OL Tristen Hoge Transferring from Notre Dame

June 5, 2017

Junior offensive lineman Tristen Hoge becomes the latest to transfer from the Notre Dame program as fellow classmate Josh Barajas announced his transfer last week.

Hoge will transfer to BYU.

The 6-foot-4, 303-pounder arrived at Notre Dame as a US Army All-American and a consensus Top 100 player. Hoge won the Gatorade Player of the Year Award in 2013 and 2014 in the state of Idaho.

As a freshman, Hoge didn’t see any action and was part of the scout team in 2015. Hoge broke into the rotation in 2016 at center and guard. The Pocatello native played in six games for the Irish as a sophomore.

Hoge does leave a void at backup center and guard as he was likely headed into the season as a backup for both spots. Senior Hunter Bivin, freshmen Robert Hainsey and Aaron Banks will probably be counted on for roles in the two-deep in 2017.

Banks and Hainsey did enroll early, so they won’t be learning entirely on the fly.

Losing depth is never good, but definitely not the end of the world. Surprised he didn't pan out given EE and being highly touted.

This is why I'm upset. He would not have been the starter this year, but now any injury to center or guard becomes a major problem.

He's going to have to repaint his Raptor....

Harry's stock keeps falling. Loses Hoge and couldn't get Carman from OH to have any interest in ND. While the latter was expected the former was not.

Not developing highly rated guys and then not recruiting them either.
More evidence why UT canned him.

And sometimes guys get beat out, or homesick, or tired of the ND academic grind or all sorts of other valid reasons to transfer.
I doubt Ronnie Stanley or Nick Martin, McGlinchey, Nelson etc think HH's "stock is falling."

Word is he was getting passed on the depth chart and it was looking like he was gonna be hard pressed to get playing time... had high hopes for him but the best will see the field. Best wishes to him

Staff .......does this seem to be the case - getting passed over on depth chart? Or other issues that factored in on him transferring ?
Regardless we should wish him well
Thanks

Say what you want but being here in TN I can tell you that UT OLine has been a dumpster fire since Harry left.

That's not the reason he is transferring. The reason for the transfer has nothing to do with playing time or a dislike for Notre Dame.

It's up to the Hoge family if they want to disclose why, but just wanted to settle some of the rumors floating around.

In light of the other transfer, this seems like a fairly large loss IMHO...
