Notre Dame Staying In Close Contact With 2028 Edge Kameron McGee

Notre Dame has several points to sell to Kameron McGee‍, from proximity and academics to the opportunity to reunite with a current teammate.

But the foundation of the Irish's pursuit of the five-star 2028 Illinois edge is being built through frequent communication with defensive line coach Charlie Partridge.

"Contact has been heavy," McGee told Irish Sports Daily. "Been talking to Coach P a lot. Me and Coach P have a lot of conversations daily. So the contact's been really good with Notre Dame."

The 6-foot-3, 248-pounder has developed an appreciation for Partridge beyond what the Notre Dame assistant brings as a coach.

"He's a family-oriented guy and he's just big on family first and he's big on life after football," McGee said. "He's an amazing guy and he's an amazing coach."

Partridge's pitch to the Brother Rice standout touches on several areas that could work in Notre Dame's favor.

"His message is it's close to home," McGee said. "It's going to be one of the best academic schools, if not the best in the country. I'm going to be playing alongside my teammate right now. So just a couple things like that."

That teammate is 2027 Notre Dame defensive tackle commit Brayden Parks.

McGee and Parks currently play alongside each other at Brother Rice, and the idea of eventually reuniting in South Bend has some appeal to McGee. 

"I feel like it would be crazy," McGee said. "If it happens and if it turns out that way, it would be a blessing.

"I feel like if I go there, Brayden would be more experienced, so he would probably walk me through everything and it would be just like the beginning of freshman year of high school."

McGee doesn't have his next Notre Dame visit locked in yet, but he and his family are working on getting back to South Bend this fall and one game in particular has his attention.

"We’re trying to figure out a game that we could go to this year," he said. "We're trying to see if I could get to the Miami game. That's one of the games I really want to go to."

Notre Dame won't be the only program McGee sees this fall.

The Chicago native already has visits set to Texas, Georgia, Oregon, Florida State and Auburn as he continues evaluating some of the country's premier programs.

McGee expects to narrow his list in the coming months.

"I think we're going to trim it down maybe after the season, sometime after the season," he said.

There isn't a timetable for a commitment beyond that.

Whenever McGee does reach the point of making his final decision, he already knows what will matter. 

"I think what's most important to me is just finding a place where it's good for me and I feel comfortable with. Also, a place where they can put me in the best position and where I could go to the NFL or have a great academic career after football."
