Kinnard Mahomes already knows what the atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium is like.
This fall, the 2028 Maryland cornerback will get another look when he returns to South Bend for the Miami game.
Mahomes made his first trip to Notre Dame for the Navy game last November, shortly before the Irish extended an offer in December.
“The atmosphere of Notre Dame, I witnessed that firsthand,” Mahomes told Irish Sports Daily. “It was really good.”
The 5-foot-11, 165-pounder is looking forward to experiencing that again this fall while getting another look at the Irish on the field.
“I want to see the same things, the DBs take the ball away,” he said. “The atmosphere will be really exciting. That would be great, having a good conversation with the coaches.”
The Mount Saint Joseph standout has built an extensive offer sheet that includes Notre Dame, Michigan, Indiana, Oregon, Washington, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Maryland, Iowa, Stanford, Syracuse, Boston College, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Virginia and West Virginia among others.
The Baltimore native has several trips in mind for the fall.
“I know that I have visit plans to Michigan, Indiana, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, and it might be one more, but that's all I know for now,” he said.
Notre Dame safeties coach Jevaughn Codlin has remained in regular communication with Mahomes.
“It's been really great,” Mahomes said. “Me and Coach J-Cod talk a lot.”
The conversations aren't always centered on recruiting.
“We just check in really every now and then, every couple of days,” Mahomes said. “He just updates me on the team and what updates they have and what they've been doing at practice. Just basic conversation really.”
Mahomes has also been impressed with Codlin as a coach.
“He's a really great coach,” Mahomes said. “He's a development coach. I say that about all the other coaches as well.”
Mahomes is in no rush to begin narrowing his recruitment.
“No, not at the moment,” he said. “It's a little bit early.”
But the 2028 prospect already has an idea of what will matter most when the time does come to take a harder look at his options.
“The chance to earn playing time, development and longevity in the school. I don't want to be a player that's hopping around in the transfer portal. I want to be a player that stays at the school and it's a great fit for me.”
