Jevaughn Codlin isn’t waiting for Langston Pridgeon's return to South Bend to show him what playing defensive back at Notre Dame could be like.
The Irish safeties coach has been giving the 2028 Virginia cornerback regular glimpses inside the program as the two build their relationship ahead of Pridgeon's upcoming Sept. 19 visit.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder will be back at Notre Dame for the night game against Michigan State after attending a game in South Bend last season.
Notre Dame offered Pridgeon in April and has remained among the schools at the forefront of his recruitment. The DeMatha Catholic standout has offers from schools like Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin among others.
"Just the history of Notre Dame," Pridgeon said of his continued interest in the Irish. "Notre Dame is definitely a big school in football. I know in recent years, they've done well with good DBs, so I just wanted to get back up there to just learn more about the defense."
Pridgeon was still at Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn, Va., when he made his previous trip to Notre Dame. He transferred to DeMatha this offseason.
During that first visit, Pridgeon paid particularly close attention to Irish cornerbacks Leonard Moore and Christian Gray and came away impressed with how Notre Dame used them.
This time, he'll have some other things to evaluate.
"When I visited up for the last game, I never really got to tour the facility," he said. "I know that they just got a new facility, so I definitely want to see that.
"Also, I'll be taking a visit with my mom because I went last time with my dad, so my mom wants to just see the game environment to talk to some of the coaches. I just definitely wanted to get back up there."
Codlin has headed up the Irish’s recruitment of Pridgeon.
"He's the main recruiter that I've been talking to,” Pridgeon said. “He sends me videos maybe every other week. He texts me in between those periods from time to time just checking up on me, sending me videos of practices so I can get a feel for how the defense is going, just feel the energy of the team."
Those glimpses into Notre Dame's practices have also given Pridgeon a peek at what Codlin is like as a coach.
"I feel like Coach Codlin's definitely a family man," he said. "I know all my interactions with him have definitely been very genuine. Even with him showing me how the practices feel, I definitely feel like he's a good teacher and he's already invested in me early, just showing me how they do it, so I do it up in Notre Dame.
"I definitely like Coach Codlin."
The Ashburn, Va., native attended Virginia's season opener against NC State and is scheduled to visit Ohio State on Sept. 26 and Penn State on Oct. 10 in addition to his Notre Dame trip. He expects to add other visits as well.
Those trips will help Pridgeon turn his lengthy offer sheet into a much smaller group of contenders.
"I definitely want to narrow it down going into the spring so I can do my Junior Day visits at the schools I really want. And then for my official visits, have it down to maybe a top five or even smaller, so I can just get it down to those schools so I can take my visits and then decide on what school I'm planning to go to."
