Zaiden Jernigan‍ isn't returning to Notre Dame in November looking for answers to a litany of questions.

After multiple trips to South Bend and months of building relationships with the Irish staff, the 2028 Mississippi running back already has a strong understanding of what Notre Dame could offer him.

The 6-foot, 195-pounder will return for the Nov. 7 game against Miami, his third trip to Notre Dame after attending last season's USC game and returning this summer.

"I really saw everything I needed to see," Jernigan said. "I just want to see the atmosphere and just see them pull out with a win versus Miami because I know it's going to be a big game."

The Louisville High School standout has remained in regular communication with several members of the Notre Dame staff, including running backs coach Ja'Juan Seider, recruiting assistant Justice Bathas and Director of Recruiting Carter Auman.

He's also had conversations with head coach Marcus Freeman.

"It's really just my relationship with pretty much the majority of the staff," Jernigan said of what keeps bringing him back to Notre Dame.

"They're always talking to me. I had a conversation with Coach Freeman. He's always talked to me about how Notre Dame can change my life if I live it and just trust it."

The Louisville, Miss., native understands what Freeman means.

"Really just the education and football development piece of it all plays in together so I can be successful no matter what I do,” he said.

Notre Dame has made its interest in Jernigan clear for months. The Irish have told him he's a priority and that a spot would be available whenever he's ready to make a decision.

Jernigan has also spoken highly of the honesty and support he's received from the staff, along with the family atmosphere he's experienced during his time on campus.

Notre Dame will have plenty of competition as Jernigan works through the process.

His offer sheet includes schools like Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn, Indiana, USC, Oklahoma, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Washington, Texas A&M, Tennessee and UCLA, among others.

Jernigan is planning fall visits to Florida, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Mississippi State, Alabama, Indiana, Auburn and Oklahoma in addition to his return to Notre Dame.

He’s expected to narrow his recruitment after making those trips, although he doesn't yet know how many schools he'll include on his next list and doesn't have a firm timeline for a final decision.

For now, he's focused on evaluating the factors that will eventually separate his top contenders.

"Early playing time, development, education and the relationship along the way in this process."
