2029 DE Braylon Ivory's Rapid Rise Leads To Notre Dame Offer
It didn't take Braylon Ivory long to realize he'd found his sport.
Three years after trading baseball for football, the 2029 Nevada defensive end is already emerging as a national prospect with an offer from Notre Dame.
The Irish offered Ivory late last month after evaluating the 6-foot-4, 217-pounder and seeing traits they believe fit what they're looking for in their program.
"I was excited," Ivory told Irish Sports Daily. “I was really stoked over it.”
The Bishop Gorman High School standout also has offers from schools like UCLA, Arizona, Kansas State, UNLV, San Diego State and UTSA among others.
But the Notre Dame offer carried some additional significance for the Las Vegas native because his interest in the Irish predates his football career.
"There’s always just been something about that school that I found interesting," Ivory said. "I also like that coaching staff too. The moment that they called me, it was a whole bunch of energy and from there I was like, 'Oh yeah, I like it even more.'"
The attention he's receiving is particularly notable considering he just started playing football a few years ago. After becoming bored with the slower pace of baseball, Ivory saw several of his friends playing football and decided to give it a shot.
"The moment I put on the helmet and the shoulder pads, I just got addicted to it," he said.
That initial interest quickly turned into a desire to improve.
"I put in a lot of work during the offseason, trying to really understand the playbook, trying to get in the weight room, get bigger, stronger, faster, and just be relentless, have a good engine and have a good get off," he said.
That work has Ivory holding a Notre Dame offer just three years into his football career. Notre Dame's coaches explained what they saw from Ivory on film that convinced them to offer.
"They were talking to me about how they just liked my relentlessness and how I just kept pursuing and pursuing and pursuing and didn't give up until the end of the game," he said.
"They liked that about me and said that's what their whole program's about, just putting in effort and just being dogs."
The next step could be getting Ivory to South Bend.
Notre Dame is trying to arrange a visit, but Ivory still needs to find a date that works with his schedule. If he can make the trip, he’ll want to use it as another opportunity to further his football education.
"I would love to see how their d-line coach and how their linebacker coach really gets in and coaches up their players," he said. "That way I can get a better understanding of how they run their stuff and how they run their formations and their plays and just get a better understanding of just more football-related because like I said, they're pros, they know what they're doing.
"I would just love to get that experience and get that feel."
Ivory is also looking at potential visits to UCLA, Kansas State and Arizona. A trip to UCLA could come after Bishop Gorman travels to California for a game against Mater Dei.
