Not a lot of newer Notre Dame fans would understand the significance of the rivalry with Michigan State. The Irish and the Spartans have played each other 79 times and it was an almost annual matchup with only a handful of years where the two programs didn’t play each other from 1948-2017.

That was the last game between them with Notre Dame’s scheduling agreement with the ACC being the primary culprit in stopping the series.
