Notre Dame Offer A Big One For 2028 WR Dontaye Day-Thompson

Dontaye Day-Thompson‍ didn't need an introduction to Notre Dame when the Irish offered him last Monday.

The 2028 New Jersey wide receiver has been watching the program since he was a kid and described Notre Dame as one of his dream schools after receiving the news.

“I was excited,” Day-Thompson told Irish Sports Daily. “It's just one of my dream schools I've been looking up to, so I was really excited.”

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder already held offers from Alabama, Boston College, Delaware State, Nebraska, Penn State, Syracuse and Temple before Notre Dame joined the list.

But the Irish have been on Day-Thompson's radar since long before his recruitment began.

“I've been watching it since I was little and one of my favorite running backs is Jeremiyah Love,” he said. “That's what makes it one of my favorites.”

Day-Thompson learned of his Notre Dame offer during a phone call with the Irish staff.

“They said a lot of good things, asked me how I like the school and then offered me,” the Atlantic City High School standout said.

Now that the offer is in hand, Day-Thompson wants to learn more about the people behind the program.

“Just getting closer to the coaches, trying to make a good relationship with them and see how the program is,” he said of the next step.

A trip to South Bend should help with that evaluation. Day-Thompson hasn't visited Notre Dame yet, but is already hoping to change that during the season.

“For sure,” he said. “I'm trying to get out there for a game visit.”

His first trip would give him an opportunity to see more than what he's watched from afar over the years.

“I would like to see the campus, how everything is, if I like it or not,” he said.

Notre Dame's interest stems from Day-Thompson’s athleticism. Asked what the Irish liked about his game, the junior pointed to his ability to create problems for defenders.

“They like how I can move,” he said. “I'm glitchy, I'm twitchy, I can make defenders miss and I'm hard to guard. I don't think nobody can guard me. I'm hard to guard.”

Day-Thompson has already been to Syracuse and Penn State this fall and plans to visit Rutgers this weekend.

There is still plenty of time before he needs to make a college decision, but Day-Thompson already knows what he'll be looking for as he makes those visits and continues building relationships.

“I'm just trying to find what makes the program family. I'm trying to just find a family, not just football, but they're trying to help me with school. They're trying to help me with everything outside of football.”
