2028 WR Corderro Bennett Takes Plenty From Latest Notre Dame Visit

Corderro Bennett‍ went to Notre Dame hoping to learn more about the Irish.

The 2028 Indiana wide receiver also ended up getting a lesson from one of the greatest receivers ever to play the game.

Bennett made the trip for Notre Dame's win over Rice and had the opportunity to meet Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald and didn't waste the opportunity to pick his brain.

“That was cool,” Bennett told Irish Sports Daily. “I talked to him, asked him for some advice.”

Fitzgerald's advice went well beyond general encouragement.

“He was just telling me about the little things,” Bennett said. “Putting that extra work in is going to help you in the long run. Having separation in your routes. If they're right on you, you'll get tackled. But if you got three yards of separation, you're getting a touchdown. 

“Being physical, getting out of your breaks. Just a lot of stuff that separates you from being a decent receiver to a great receiver.”

The conversation added another element to Bennett's second trip to South Bend after the 6-foot-5, 190-pounder visited for a spring practice in March. The Hammond Morton High School standout also got his first opportunity to experience a Notre Dame gameday during the Irish’s home opener.

“It was good,” Bennett said. “I liked the environment. I got to meet the coaches. It was just a nice environment.”

Bennett paid particular attention to the Irish receivers and the opportunities they were given within the offense during Notre Dame’s 52-0 victory.

“I liked the way they played,” he said. “They executed. They played very hard. They did the little things right that helped them win the game. They were throwing the ball down the field, just giving their receivers a chance to get the ball and make plays.”

Bennett wasn't simply evaluating how he might fit into the offense. He also took advantage of the trip to learn from the receivers already on the field.

“I watched the receivers a lot,” he said. “I take a lot from the game, add it to my game, so it just helped me become a better receiver.”

Notre Dame has yet to offer Bennett, who holds offers from Auburn, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas State, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Purdue and Wisconsin, among others.

The Irish remain interested and have been straightforward with Bennett about where things stand. 

“They said they would continue to follow me and build their interest in me,” Bennett said. “They just want to see a little more. So I'll just continue my relationship with them.”

A significant part of that relationship is with wide receivers coach Mike Brown.

Bennett spoke briefly with Brown during the Rice visit, but had more time with him when he attended the spring practice in March. The two have continued building their relationship since.

“I like the way he doesn't try to sugarcoat things,” Bennett said. “He just keeps it 100 with you. He'll tell you what you need to work on. He won't try to baby you. He'll tell you what you need.

“He'll come in every day, help you work, help you get better. And he'll just put everything he's got into you to make sure you're the best person you can be as a man and as a player.”

Bennett plans to continue evaluating his options as well. After visiting Ohio State earlier this month, he has upcoming trips planned to Indiana, Kansas State, Wisconsin and Kentucky and could add others.

“I feel good about Notre Dame,” he said. “I like the way they give their receivers a chance to go get the ball. I like their defense. Their defense is real intense. They fly around to the ball, they hustle every play.

“I like the way they hustle. I like their tempo and I just like the way that they run their offense.”
