Notre Dame continues to give Theo Schott‍ reasons to come back to South Bend as the 2028 Indiana tight end moves closer to narrowing his recruitment and ultimately choosing a school.

His most recent visit, for Saturday’s win over Stanford, offered another opportunity to connect with the Irish coaching staff, watch the team in action and experience the atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder came away pleased with what he saw.

“It went great,” Schott said. “It was a fun game. Notre Dame dominated and got to see it in person, which was cool.”

The Green Out atmosphere made an impression on the Zionsville High School standout.

“Seeing everything coordinated and the crowd was a fun time for sure,” he said. “All the students were in the game the whole time. It was a packed out, sold out crowd, even when they're playing maybe a team of less caliber, which is cool to see.”

Schott has visited Notre Dame multiple times, including for Irish Invasion over the summer, and has become familiar with the program's expectations. This time, he was encouraged to see the Irish deliver the type of performance he anticipated.

“That's kind of what you expect when you go to a game like that,” he said. “You want to see pure domination and that's what they did for sure.

“Offense didn't slow down once and the defense was looking really dominant, so I saw what I wanted to see.”

Beyond the game itself, Schott's visit provided another opportunity to strengthen his connections with the coaching staff. He spent time speaking with Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock before kickoff and caught up with other members of the staff afterward.

“I talked to Denbrock before the game,” Schott said. “We talked for a few minutes, which was good, just catching up and got to see all the coaches after the game in the locker room, just catching up and continuing that relationship.”

Those relationships have been developing through regular communication with the Irish.

Director of Recruiting Carter Auman has been Schott's primary contact, while Denbrock and assistant tight ends coach Harris Bivin have also remained heavily involved. Schott has had chances to speak with head coach Marcus Freeman as well.

“I feel like communication's always the best,” Schott said. “When you're on constant FaceTime, texts or just calls, continuing to get to know each other and just checking in; what you expect that week or this Friday for me or asking questions about how they expect their game to go this week and kind of just a normal relationship between coaches and staying in contact.”

Schott won't have to wait long for another opportunity to spend time around the program. He's planning to return to Notre Dame for the Irish's game against Miami.

“That should be fun,” he said. “I’m bringing my parents to that one. They didn't have a chance to make it to the last one.”

The return trip will be part of a busy stretch of visits as Schott continues evaluating his options.

He plans to visit Indiana this weekend, followed by trips to Oregon and Vanderbilt. Texas Tech and Iowa are also possibilities. Once those visits are complete, Schott expects to begin narrowing his recruitment.

“I'll probably narrow my list down after the season, probably either top five or top 10 or something like that. And then probably make a decision sometime next year.”
