Javier McCoy has already had the full Notre Dame camp experience and he capped that experience by landing an offer at Irish Invasion.
On Saturday, he’ll get to experience a Notre Dame game day when the 2028 Indiana linebacker returns to South Bend for the Irish's game against Miami, his second trip to campus and his first chance to see Notre Dame play in person.
"It's going to be a good game," McCoy told Irish Sports Daily.
McCoy is excited about the trip and knows what he wants out of it.
"Just being on campus, meeting the coaches and everything," he said.
He spent much of his time at Invasion working with Irish linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary and the offer made an impact.
"It meant a lot," McCoy said. "It brought my name out more."
In addition to Notre Dame, McCoy's offer sheet now includes schools like Indiana, Louisville, Purdue and Toledo and others. He has already taken game visits to Louisville, Purdue, Iowa and Wisconsin this fall, and Notre Dame is the only visit he still has planned.
The 6-foot-2, 221-pounder is considered one of the top 2028 linebackers in Indiana and the Andrean High School product doesn’t have to look far for a blueprint. Andrean produced current Irish linebacker Drayk Bowen, and Bowen's path registered with McCoy when he earned the offer in June.
"Just knowing he came from Andrean and he's playing at Notre Dame," McCoy said in June. "It shows I could possibly do that too."
For all of that, McCoy is honest about how little he actually knows about Notre Dame at this point.
"Really not that much, but I know it has a great tradition there and it's a great football program," he said.
This weekend, McCoy wants to see a side of Notre Dame a camp cannot put on display.
"Really just the environment, the energy out there and everything," he said.
McCoy plans to narrow his list at some point after the season, but he is in no rush to do so just yet. When he does, his priorities are already clear.
"Just somewhere I can start at and just the environment."
