2019 S Thomas Enjoys Invasion
Corey Thomas made the trip out to Notre Dame this weekend to show the coaching staff what he could do and for the 2019 Pittsburgh safety to get a look at the campus in South Bend.
Check and check.
“It went pretty good,” the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder said.
Thomas felt good about what he showed the Irish coaches.
“I think I can run and cover,” he said. “I showed them nice footwork, stuff like that.”
He received positive feedback from both defensive backs coach Todd Lyght and defensive coordinator Mike Elko.
“Coach Elko said he liked what he saw a lot and they’ll be in touch,” the Central Catholic High School standout explained.
Thomas, who already has offers from Bowling Green, Buffalo and Toledo, had a positive impression of the Irish coaches as well.
“I like Coach Elko a lot,” he said. “He’s very down to earth, a good coach. Coach Lyght seems like a good guy.”
On Sunday, Thomas had a chance to take a closer look at the school and the program.
“It went really good,” he said. “I got to see a lot of stuff and learn a lot of new things.
“We got to tour the campus, that was nice. I learned a lot about the tradition at Notre Dame, speak with Coach Lyght and learned a bunch of stuff from him.”
Thomas enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about the scheme and Lyght.
“We just went over their defense,” he said. “He pointed out some things for us to work on. I didn’t know how he was a Consensus All-American, first-round draft pick, stuff like that.”
The Pennsylvania native plans on getting back in touch with the Irish soon.
“I’m actually going to call Coach Lyght and Coach Elko in the next couple of days to talk to them a little bit more,” he said.
But first, Thomas has one other visit this week and another down the road.
“I’m going to Ohio State on Tuesday and I’m going to Penn State next month.”
