The Lineman’s Challenge has been a hot event at Notre Dame over the past few summers and 2018 Mullen (Colo.) offensive lineman Florian McCann III is looking forward to competing this weekend.
“I am pumped to get out to South Bend,” McCann told Irish Sports Daily. “I think this will be my last camp of the summer, so I am excited.”
Area recruiter Todd Lyght stopped by Mullen in the spring to get information on the three-star prospect and McCann is returning the favor. The Denver native is also excited to get to work with offensive line coach Harry Hiestand.
“I am excited to work with Coach Hiestand,” stated McCann. “He is the offensive line coach at Notre Dame, so he definitely knows what he is doing. I am ready to learn and get better for the season.”
At 6-foot-4, 275-pounder, McCann possesses strength and athleticism, which is something he hopes to show off this weekend. McCann won MVP of the All-Poly Camp last week and hopes to continue the momentum.
“I am focusing on my strength and maintaining my speed,” explained McCann. “I think I got that done so far. During the Poly Camp, I felt I didn’t lose any speed and felt a lot stronger.”
The recruiting momentum has also picked up for the Mullen star as a few new schools have taken notice of McCann after his performance.
“I have six offers right now, and I am just excited to continue the process,” McCann said. “It’s been a fun process. I feel like some new schools are showing a lot of interest, especially after winning MVP at the Poly camp.
“I just got off the phone with Boise State, and I had the University of Miami talking to me. It’s been fun to get noticed by other schools.”
While gaining the attention of new schools is great, Notre Dame will have McCann’s focus all week as he prepares for the weekend camp.
“I am just excited to get to Notre Dame,” said McCann. “Notre Dame has always been my dream school. I have heard about it and seen the pictures. I want to see it all in person and meet the coaches this weekend.”
