2018 Washington WR Gets Look At Notre Dame, Hopes To Hear More

Jesiah Irish spent three days in South Bend last month, when the 2018 Washington wide receiver took part in Notre Dame’s camp.

“We flew in a little early and stayed in Chicago and did some tours there,” the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder said. “We drove over to South Bend in the morning.

“My uncle is a pretty big fan there, so we took a walk around campus and saw Touchdown Jesus and the chapel and stuff. It was really cool to get to see that.”

The Mount Si High School standout said his time schedule was a little tighter once the three-day camp began, but he enjoyed his time.

“We had practice in the morning and another one around 5, so our days were pretty long,” he said.

“It was really cool. I really loved it. It’s one of my favorite campuses by far. I like the history and the Catholic thing, I really like that. It was a really good time being down there. I could really see myself being there.”

Irish, who has been clocked at 4.40 in the 40-yard dash, did his best to give the Notre Dame staff a look at what he can do.

“I just tried to show them my speed and how coachable I am,” he said. “It was kind of cool being put up with one of their wide receiver commits.”

At one point during the camp, Irish was paired with 2018 Notre Dame wide receiver commit Micah Jones to go through drills with wide receiver coach Del Alexander.

“It was cool running routes with him and learning from Coach Alexander and him telling us what we need to work on and what we’re good at,” said Irish.

“He said I was really good at being coachable, that was one of the main things.”

Irish also got an idea of what he could work on from Alexander.

“What he wanted me to take away was being more precise with my routes and not thinking too much when I go into my break and when I go up for a ball and to just rely on my talents,” said Irish.

“He said, ‘It’s really got to come through you because you’re the athlete. If you think too much, it’s not going to happen the way you want it to. It’s going to take too long. Football is such a fast game and you don’t need to be thinking. You should be playing.’ That was kind of cool to hear him say that.”

Irish also got a chance to speak with Notre Dame assistant Todd Lyght, who would be his area recruiter.

“It was cool getting to know him a little more,” Irish said of Lyght. “He was telling us about his path and his recruitment and he talked about his life.”

He’d been talking to Alexander leading up to the camp and was glad to hook up with Lyght while in town.

“He said they’re going to keep recruiting me through the summer and see how things shape up with the offers they have out right now at wide receiver, see who commits and who doesn’t,” Irish said. “They said in later July, early-August, we’ll see what happens from there and if I get an offer or not during that time span. That’s probably when it’ll be or during the first couple of games of the season.”

Irish already has offers from schools BYU, Montana, Montana State, Weber State and Idaho and said an offer from Notre Dame “would mean a lot.”

“I’ve been watching them since I can remember,” he added. “They were kind of the first team I grew up loving because my family watched them every Saturday. It would mean a lot to me and my family to receiver an offer from there. That would be really cool.”

Irish also plans on hitting camps at Washington and Washington State this month.

“I’m going to Wazzu on the 29th. From there, I’m kind of open. I might go check out some schools and see what they want me to do.”
