Whenever anyone brings up a great Notre Dame defense, 2012 inevitably comes up.

Of course it does. That defense carried the program to an undefeated regular season and was one of the best in the nation. As far as the last twenty years go, that group stands above the rest to most fans.

There is no doubt they played terrific and had plenty of star power, but in reality the first two defenses under Bob Diaco were right up there with them.
